Local Flavor. Local Good.

About

Restaurants for Refugees is a community event designed to raise awareness about the 46,000+ refugees living in the Denver metro area. These resilient members of our community have survived the worst this world can offer, have rebuilt their lives, and are now pursuing their dreams here in Colorado.

Refugees bring with them rich traditions and diverse cultures—and central to many of these traditions and cultures is food. Restaurants for Refugees gives Denver’s mainstream community the opportunity to learn their stories over a plate of Denver’s best, local restaurants.

On June 11th, 13th, 18th and 20th, local restaurants are stepping up to create a greater awareness for refugees in Denver. The African Community Center will have someone at the restaurant to answer questions and share with anyone interested in learning more about some of Denver’s newest neighbors. Additionally, a portion of that particular day’s sales will be donated to the African Community Center of Denver (ACC)to continue their refugee resettlement work.

Restaurants for Refugees is a symbolic coming together of cultures, a fusion of flavors and a celebration of the richness and diversity found in our own neighborhoods.

The African Community Center of Denver is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that works to help refugees rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver. Since its founding in 2001, ACC has welcomed over 3,500 refugees who have fled violence, persecution, and war in their home countries. ACC bridges the gap between hope for a better life and economic self-sufficiency through providing essential services such as housing assistance, medical referrals, school enrollments, intensive job search, and hands-on workplace training.

We know that given the right opportunities and support, every refugee who comes to Denver can succeed in building a meaningful home here among us. Your help ensures that every refugee who comes to Denver has an open path to self-sustainability in our shared community. When you support the African Community Center, you help us connect hope to opportunity in Denver.
